Arnica Lake, Twin Lakes Trail Hike on 24-Aug-2014
It was quite foggy as we departed Calgary and stayed that way until about Morley. Low clouds shrouded the peaks but were starting to lift by the time we got to the Vista Lake trailhead. Much had cleared off by the time we were on the way up towards Arnica Lake and we had views across the valley of the future Rambler destination of Bell Ridge:

Upper Twin Lake About 1pm we arrived at our destination of Lower Twin Lake:

Lower Twin Lake The sun came out and warmed us a bit; a loon provided at sample of its haunting call. There were also what appeared to be some western grebes flopping around on the lake, but confirmation was difficult as none of us had brought our binoculars. There were some very light sprinkles of rain which were not cause for rain gear. They provided an excuse not to go swimming. We headed back and paused at Upper Twin Lake to watch a female goldeneye with four ducklings cruising around and duck diving. The youngsters will have to put on a growth spurt to be able to migrate. On the way back we took the side trip at the summit to gain the vistas both southeast & northwest:

boletes As we descended it warmed up considerably. We were sweaty after the ascent from Vista Lake to the parking lot where the temperature registered 16C.
An excellent day in the mountains for Nardi, Mohsen, Rosanne, Barbara and Ron C/S/P.
