Rimwall Summit 180506 Scramble on 1-Jul-2014

Perfect day, sun, no wind, great company, excellent views. The first real summer day for 2014. About 6.5 hours round trip including a good hour on the summit and several other breaks.

Due to sighting a young bear on the other side of the canal above Canmore, we didn't get going from Spurling Creek until 9.45am

. As suggested by Carl VM, we turned left off the Wind Pass trail after about 15 minutes following scattered flagging and cairns in loose trees. By moving climber's left, we traversed below a long cliff band and then essentially straight up to the summit ridge.

. Including a break to regroup we scrambled through to Rimwall Summit at 13.15pm for a 1 hour lunch break

. Although I have not seen any reports, it seems possible to traverse Wind Pass North to South and Cordula spent some time examining the route.

We returned roughly the same way to arrive at the cars by 16.15pm (6.5 hours including 1 hour lunch and other breaks). It was hot prompting some to cool their feet in the reservoir. Only two other groups on this peak today. Thanks to a great group of Nicole, Cordula, Mel,Peter, Jeanne, Gerry from C&S David.
Near highway 40, the traffic on the return to Calgary was so heavy that at times the speed was reduced to 50 kph. Time for a 3rd lane?
