Mt St. Piran Off-Trail Hike on 21-Sep-2010

The cloud cover was fairly thick, but we had very pretty "peek-a-boo" views from time to time. Five cm fresh snow at the lake, about twice that at the summit. There appeared to be no snow under the last 24 hours deposit. The larches are beautiful and golden, but heavily covered with white stuff. No precipitation other than what fell on our heads off the trees.
The weather looked quite promising when we set out from Lake Louise.

But it seems like there were always clouds surrounding Mt St Piran. Even at the end of the day when Fairview was completely in the clear, that was the case. But the temperature was comfortable, the snow not too deep, and the larches golden (with lots of frost).

At the top of the mountain, we occasionally had glimpses of Niblock, and Fairview and the valley, but most of the time we were completely socked in.

Things cleared up a bit on our way down with side trips to the Little Beehive and Lake Agnes.
