Glacier Dome (Jumbo Cr., B.C. area) backpack Scramble on 3-Aug-2002

6 hours drive and 4 hours of horrible bushwacking, brought Alistair, Gail and scribe DM to an excellent campsite partway up Jumbo Creek, about 50 km West of Invermere. Sunday was spent walking up to Glacier Dome above The Lake of the Hanging Glaciers for some superb views unfortunately marred by the incoming cloud and intermittent rain showers. We found many flagging stakes in the upper basin presumeably remnants from winter heli-skiing operations. On Monday morning we returned to the trail head near the trail for Jumbo Pass bypassing the worst bushwalking by extensive sidehilling. This proved easier (all things are relative). In meadows near the car we encountered the only other humans during the trip: 3 older trail bikers who actually apologised for the racket they were making. A cold swim in Lake Invermere and "pepper" fahitas in the Canmore Drake and we were home soon after 9.00pm. A good outing, which would have been excellent with better weather.
