Hummingbird Plume Lookout Trail Hike on 14-Oct-2007

The promise of a beautiful fall day brought 21 Ramblers out for a hike to Hummingbird Plume and Troll Falls! The air was crisp and clear at the trailhead as Kay led us thru a maze of trails to cross the base of Nakiska and then up to Hummingbird Plume – our lunchtime destination. Surprisingly few others were out – but we did follow a grouse up the trail for a while before it got tired of us and headed off into the bush.

At the lookout, some took advantage of the picnic table for lunch while others sat at the viewpoint and enjoyed the sun and the views.

On the way down, we stopped in a Troll Falls – here we found other people. Then we elected to hike along the river on the return with hopes of spotting some of the migrating golden eagles. We did find a group of dedicated eagle watchers – they had been there all day! Although they had been able to spot 24 so far and even a couple while we were there, we couldn’t see them with the naked eye or the small binoculars any of us carried.
