Little Odaray (aka Walter Feuz Peak) Scramble on 14-Jul-2007

Little Odaray, Walter Fuez Peak, the bus driver affectionately calls it "Li'l O", a young man who came up after us called it the most rewarding scramble in the Rockies. Whatever you call it, we had a spectacular and successful day.

We set off from Le Relais at around 9:00 and proceeded fairly quickly to Odaray Grandview.

From there the route up to the summit ridge looks very intimidating. In fact most of the way is on fairly stable rock and talus (SC5), there is almost no loose scree, and there are a few short SC6 moves required.

Once up on the ridge, the going is straightforward and the views are nothing short of spectacular.

We were on top of Little Odaray shortly after noon and took a full Rambler hour-long lunch enjoying views southeast to Assiniboine west to the Purcells and north to peaks which we didn't know well enough to identify.
The return was easy including some nice glissading.

And some snowman building.

We were all in agreement that the day was so good that it would be a pity to return in a hurry, and so we added a trip to Lake McArthur and a long rest there before returning on the 6:30 bus.

Thanks to Bill for encouraging me to call the trip and for describing the route.
Participants: Alicja, Marietta, Robin and Carl (coordinator and scribe).
