Mt Birdwood in Winter
Mt Birdwood is a prominent peak when viewed from the trail to Burstall Pass or from the Robertson glacier. The crux of winter trip #E358 (Birdwood Pass-Smuts Pass-Commonwealth Creek) ascends the steep snow slopes to the pass below Mt Birdwood on the left of the picture. It should only be done in stable snow conditions. The rewards are good views and some good skiing down to the Spray Valley and in the upper reaches of Commonwealth Creek.
