Skogan Pass and Loop Trail Skiing on 12-Dec-2011

Beautiful weather (if a little cold) and great trail conditions (all packed, partially trackset, and a few cm of fresh snow) made for a fine day out.
It was a chilly -19 when we started from the car, and green wax held very well even on Philip's skinny skis. It did seem to warm up to around 10 during the day.

On the way up we saw lots of animal tracks, a coyote or two had used much of the route and for quite a while we are fairly sure that there were tracks of a black bear! Higher up we saw deer and also moose tracks.

We skied first to Skogan Pass. There were skier tracks that seemed to go on down to Dead Man's Flats (although they may have turned around after realizing that they weren't on the route to the pass).

After a quick lunch we returned via the Skogan Loop trail in order to get some better views.

We stopped in at the Nakiska day lodge before driving back.

Many thanks to Philip (photos) and Stuart (driver) for joining me, Carl (C/S).
