About the Ramblers

The Rocky Mountain Ramblers Association is a club dedicated to the pursuit of outdoor activities, and based in Calgary, Alberta. The club coordinates over 400 trips per year, including:

trail and off-trail hiking,
scrambling and some mountaineering,
backpacking,
snowshoeing,
cross-country skiing,
ski mountaineering,
downhill skiing,
car camping
and occasionally bicycling and canoeing.

Many day trips visit Kananaskis Country and Banff National Park. Multi-day trips may involve backpacking, car camping or stays at Hostels and Huts.

Meetings

The Rocky Mountain Ramblers meet every Wednesday night at 7:30pm at the Rosemont Community Hall, located at 2807 - 10 St NW.

Meetings typically consist of:

a weather report for the upcoming weekend;
a brief introduction of the trips going out the next weekend;
a description of the trips that went out the previous weekend.

Frequently, there are programs such as slide shows after the business portion of the meeting. Guests are welcome, and memberships can be purchased at meetings.

Note: Rambler trips are open to members only, and their children.
To apply for membership you need to be at least 18 years old. Before becoming a member, you must read the Outdoor Activities Guide, and complete and sign the Membership Application form, which includes a liability waiver. There are three types of membership: Regular, Lifetime, and Guest:

Regular Membership: For a modest annual fee ($25.00) you will have the opportunity to participate in one of the most active hiking and skiing clubs in Calgary. The Ramblers offer many easy introductory trips for members new to the outdoors. These easier trips are especially numerous at the start of the hiking and skiing seasons. The Ramblers also offer more advanced trips for those with more experience and/or desire to expand their current range of endeavours. See Recent trips for a sampling of our outdoor activities. The annual membership term ends November 30th. New memberships purchased after September 1st are valid until November 30th of the following year.
Lifetime Membership: Same privileges as Regular Membership. No longer available for purchase.
Guest Membership: Regular members can sponsor a guest (or guests) over a period of 2 consecutive weeks wherein the guest, accompanied by their sponsor, can go on as many trips as they wish. There is no fee, but the guest can apply only once annually. A guest becomes a Guest member of the Ramblers, and needs to apply as Regular members do. Guest members can become Regular members by simply paying the membership fee. Regular members can repeat this process as often as they wish for other guests.

Participation of Minor Children: Members who wish to bring children under 18 years of age on trips must have a parent or legal guardian sign the Release and Waiver of Liability for Minor Children. Each child must be accompanied by a Responsible member who takes sole responsibility for the needs and safety of the child. A parent or legal guardian can apply now to have their child or children participate in Rambler trips.

Social Events

The Ramblers hold several social events throughout the year, such as:

pot-luck dinners;
a Stampede breakfast;
an annual dinner and dance.
