Mount James Walker Off-Trail Hike on 28-Jul-2010

With fifteen independent & strong-minded Ramblers on today's trip, I had lots of good advice on route finding. Bill's suggestion to go around the west side of the lake saved time & avoided bushwhacking.

Thanks as well to whoever found that big, sturdy, fallen tree for the stream crossing.

After our first rest stop Carl decided to try the Nugara scramble route to the summit. This decision was discussed & pre-arranged last Sunday. The scramble is probably a SC6 (with some moderate exposure) on the Rambler scale. The next two pictures show the beginning of their scramble.

Some of the residual snow was still firm enough to support a little glissading on the way down from the summit.

The next picture shows part of the group having another rest stop on the hiker's route. This is rated as OT5. The mountains in the center-background of the photo are on the east side of Hwy 40.
