Trip Date: 24-Jul-2010
Activity: Off-Trail Hike
Destination: Old Goat Glacier 140460
Report:

Wonderful day with a great group. The glacier covers more ground this year than anyone could remember from previous years. We were about 2 hours from the trainhead to the glacier. On the return we had lots of time so decided to look for the tarn. Our first instinct was to head for a small hanging valley and some of the group did explore that area but only found a small puddle. We did find the tarn and it was a worthwhile sidetrip. From there it is a fairly easy bushwack back to the trail.

Thanks to Karen, Kathy, Janet, Nardi, Brenda (photos), Philip, David, Jennifer, Francisco, Maria and guest Mark for a great day. David c/s/p

Waterfall from the upper valley

Lots of snow remaining in the upper valley

Old Goat Glacier - will it gain some ground this year?

Lunch near the glacier

The snow made for a quicker and easier return than the rocky morraine

The only tarn in the far trees is a puddle

The tarn not often visited
