| Trip Date: 14-Jul-2010 Activity: Road Bike Destination: Road bike on 1A highway from near Banff to Louise |
We had an excellent ride in perfect conditions other than having to maneuver through quite a few tourist/wildlife jams.
I had reports that there had been significant snow in the mountains (which turned out to be exaggerated) and so a scramble I was on was cancelled. But the weather looked good and so I called this trip on Tuesday evening. We started from the beginning of the 1A highway just past Banff. There was lots of wildlife on the road and therefore also lots of tourists stopping cars and taking pictures. The traffic was fairly heavy but the cars were generally respecting the 60 km speed limit and there were plenty of other cyclists (many on long distance tours) so the cars gave us good space.
We had lunch at Samson Mall in Lake Louise and then headed back. It appeared to have showered a bit near the cars, but we had sunny skys almost all the way, and no rain.
