Summer Solstice evening hike on Ha Ling Trail Hike on 21-Jun-2010

We had an excellent mid-summer evening. Seven left the Goat creek parking lot at 7:30 and hiked up at a pretty steady pace with two brief rest stops.

We reached the top just before 9:00.

Three additional Ramblers were late and left the parking lot just before 8:00 arriving at the top shortly after nine, making very good time.

One other Rambler with her daughter had left just before the main group and arrived at the top shortly after the speedsters.

The views were good, not great and it was cool after staying at the top for more than 15-20 minutes and so we started down around 9:30, with most arriving back before 10:30 (well before lights were required).

A special welcome to four first-time Ramblers Michelle, Ron, Hannah, and Nathalie. Thanks also to Alda, Jeannine, Mel and Wallace for joining me, Carl (C/S). We were also accompanied on the mountain by Wallace's Canmore friend Murray and Rambler Elizabeth and her daughter Natalia. And that accounts for everyone who was on Ha ling after 8:30 or so.
The first lightning appeared once we were back at the car, and heavy rain fell east of Canmore before we drove back.
