What a gorgeous day to be in the snow covered mountains! There was a cold wind where we parked the cars but the rest of the day was warm and mostly wind free with lots of sunshine. We were soon delayering as we hiked up the snow covered Grass Pass trail and were down to our base layer by the afternoon.

In some sections of our route there was minimal snow but in other places we were wallowing up to our knees. By the afternoon the snow had turned mushy and those without enough waterproofing on their boots had quite wet feet at the end of the trip.

Descending to Grass Pass

We walked partway up the Bull creek hills before stopping for lunch on a snow free section that had been occupied by three sheep who fled at our intrusion. A small snowperson was erected here to celebrate St. Patrick’s day.
