It was a beautiful blue sky day as we headed to the mountains and arrived to find very little wind, even on the short walk along the road. The trail was packed down by a few hikers ahead of us which made the ascent easier, although I was reminded how much effort it takes to move in snow. We arrived near the summit and despite not being able to cross the final narrow section of rock/slab, we were happy to enjoy a long lunch break as it had become warm with still very light wind. The descent was a little slippery and snow was collecting in our spikes so most took them off and all found it a good balance challenge to stay upright. Thanks to Damian,Jane and Donna for joining me to lead my first trip of 2024.

...best not to step too far off the beaten path
