Trip Report
Trip Date:
3-Dec-2021
Activity:
Trail hike
Trip name:
Prairie Mtn - West Ridge Loop
Coordinator:
Ingrid
Report:

Highway 66 hadn’t been plowed, so it was a slow drive in a moderate depth of new snow. Thank goodness for winter tires!

The trail was beautiful, with up to 10 cm of powder on the ground higher up and a thick frosting on the trees. After climbing in base layers in the sun and calm air, it was quite astonishing how strong (and cold) the wind was on the ridge. We didn’t linger but continued the loop, enjoying a fast floating descent in the untracked snow.

We stopped for a short lunch break in the meadow at the bottom (with whiskey jack entertainment) and had a nice walk with interesting conversations back to the cars, arriving 4 hours after starting out.

Thanks to Sonja and Jane for joining me, from coordinator Ingrid.
