Report:

A beautiful fall day for an easy hike in the foothills. We started in below zero temperatures and nobody shed any layers until the steep climb on the Volcano ridge trail. After a few minutes on the Link trail and before the first rise we left the wide trail and made a beeline to the grassy and open southwest slopes of Volcano ridge

Starting up the open S.W slopes

Once on top of the ridge we rejoined the regular trail and in a short time we were on the summit enjoying the expansive views and a refreshing breeze

To complete the loop we went down the regular trail and then it was up again to the South Volcano ridge summit

On the way to the south summit

Optional scrambling

After another break in the warm afternoon sun we followed the good trail down the ridge eventually joining the main one. Back at the cars at 3:15 pm.Deborah's GPS measured a distance of 15.4 Km and a cumulative elevation gain of 770 m.
