Trip Report
Trip Date:
23-Mar-2021
Activity:
Trail hike
Trip name:
Merlin View loop
Coordinator:
Ingrid
Report:

The overnight snow turned the Bragg Creek area into a winter wonderland; it also turned the roads past the Hwy 22 traffic circle into sheets of ice, and perhaps that was why there so few people out. We saw only 5 people during our hike and the parking lot was almost empty when we returned at 2:15.

This loop was new to all of us, and the deepish fresh snow covered the unsigned left turn onto the Merlin loop, so we ended up going clockwise. We continued onto Kestrel (again unsigned) at the far end of the loop and had lunch at the quite amazing viewpoint under warm blue sky with no wind. Then we headed back via Reconnect and Long Distance in increasingly sticky snow.

Many thanks to John and Jo for sharing this nice escape fom the city, from coordinator Ingrid.
