Five of us left the parking lot at Little Highwood and following Daffern's description found the very steep trail up to the col near Gap Ridge. Because of the fog-we missed seeing gap mountain. We continued up to Pocaterra-Elpoca Col. We descended into the valley on a great scree run and followed along game trails in the larches until we could see the Elpoca-Opal Col ahead of us. By now, Daffern's description of a trail was non-existent.

Walking above Elpoca Creek

So far, we had not encountered much bushwacking but we decided rather than retrace our route (which required a significant ascent) to continue our traverse around Gap Mountain and come out to the road.

Returning to car - Elpoca Creek Loop - Mount Roberta

So we ended up doing a loop around Gap Mountain: Total Ascent 828 M and 11 km. Thanks to Jim, Terry and Peter for helping with navigation decisions and thanks to Jeannette for her support.
