We had a preview of winter with varying amounts of fresh snow all the way up Wasootch Ridge from valley bottom. There were likely a few “why are we doing this?!” thoughts as we exited the cars into a cold howling wind, but we quickly warmed up as we climbed and the wind decreased down to a very light breeze. We continued past 2nd cairn, first to the south peaklet and then to the minor summit with the windbreak. Lunch was warm, and Carl’s Peakfinder app counted 81 peaks within sight. On the return trip, we stopped to admire some of the stunted pines and were extra careful on the descent made slippery by melted snow.

The views during the whole trip were absolutely beautiful due to the fresh snow all around, and we saw no one else all day (except for 2 juvenile grouse and many songbirds). What a great way to spend 6 hours, especially in the company of a fine group of Ramblers.
