The sky was the bluest and best of Alberta skies and it was a warm day on the hike to Powderface Ridge from the south, except for the icy wind on the summit. We arrived at the summit at exactly noon, and after looking around fruitlessly for any shelter we returned to the point where the trail hits the top. Here we had a toasty warm lunch spot.

Lunch was just below the escarpment at the summit

From our lunch spot we could see that there was something large on the summit of the eastern outlier.

We could see something large on the Outlier summit

From the base of the outlier we could see that somebody has planted a large Canadian flag there. So we electronically "ran up for a closer look", utilizing telephone telephoto technology.

What we saw was a large Canadian flag

The only wildlife we saw was a blue grouse, but the photographer had not yet turned the phone on, and by the time the thing was ready the grouse was long gone.

We were back to the cars before 3:30.
