When we met at 7.00am at Shouldice batting cages we were given a leaflet requesting that we park nearer the river at the weekends. So we moved 100 metres and after a road busy with ski trafiic departed Burstall Pass Parking at 9.00am. First we were briefly entertained by a motor cyclist with sidecar executing controlled circles in the parking lot. The weather was cloudy and spitting snow in the -5c temperatures. With several breaks we reached treeline about 11.45am for an early lunch. Weather about the same but we were in 4 inches of new snow.

Manfred, mostly hidden Sim, Arnold,Cathy, Yolande, Terry and David enjoy lunch enroute to South Burstall Pass

We continued in poor visibilty and wind to a cairn near south burstall pass. Unfortunately the views were negligible but the ski back to treeline was so good that most of us opted to ski up to the north burstall pass for another run. Since the light had improved slightly, this was lovely sking in about 6 inches of new powder even for those on tele gear. We then returned to the cars via the rather challenging river gully by 4.30pm. Thanks to all for keeping together and being flexible to enjoy some unexpected new powder when the original trip (to south burstall pass) was marred by poor visibility.
We also saw 2 ptarmigan on the gravel flats below the robertson glacier and a herd of elk near Nakiska. 20 km, 700m, 7.5 hours.
