Seven Ramblers were treated to a sunny windless day in the Kananaskis Lakes area. Even though all of the group had done this trip many times in the summer, other than the coordinator, none of the others had done it as a snowshoe in the winter. It is a short trip, with superb views and zero avalanche hazard.

Our destination, the SE shoulder of Indefatigable

Morning sun at the trailhead

Following the summer trail through the trees, leads to the semi open treed section of the lower part of the shoulder. The uphill on this section is constant for three quarters of a kilometre, but not overly steep.

Heading up through the trees on the lower slope of the shoulder

. The reward for ascending the lower section of the shoulder, is a spectacular view of the Lakes and surrounding valley and peaks.

Taking a break at the first viewpoint

The rest of the trip is a simple uphill trek along the open shoulder, with great views all the way along.

Great views all along the ridge/shoulder

The group stopped for lunch at a sunny spot at the upper end of the shoulder.

A leisurely stroll back down the shoulder, with a number of stops to enjoy the great views, brought us back to the lower viewpoint.

A quick retracing of our route through the lower section, saw the group back at the parking lot in 40 minutes.
Thanks to Bruce, Aldis, Teresa, Bill, Susan and Christine for their great company and for joining me Kevin (S/C) on this short but very enjoyable snowshoe in the Kananaskis Lakes area.
