It was a bluebird summer day on Prairie Mountain.  We saw at least half a dozen deer on the morning drive through lush green foothills to the Powderface Creek trailhead.  We enjoyed lunch on the summit in warm sunshine and no wind.  There was nobody else on the beautiful west ridge loop.  Most of the people we saw on the mountain and even on the Prairie Creek trail seemed to be OCD exercise fanatics running up and down the steep, eroded trail, some listening to music devices.  We listened to the birds singing and the breeze in the trees, and enjoyed the fabulous flowers--calypso orchids, blue eyed grass, dryas, crocuses, shooting stars, arnica, clematis, low larkspur, violets, etc.  Even the bright yellow dandelions were beautiful on the lush green meadows.  We were back to the cars by 3:20.
