Snowy trails, strong winds and low clouds shaped our day. As the clouds meant poor summit visibility, we decided not to go to the summit and to just hike and explore what is really a pretty little valley, even under winter conditions. Unfortunately the weather continued to deteriorate so we decided to head back to the cars after a couple of hours of hiking.

On the positive side, everyone was well prepared for winter conditions, shared in the trail breaking and enjoyed a good old fashioned tongue wag. RMR, as a club, offers wonderful opportunities to socialize while hiking and to observe all Covid regulations at the same time. I learned about one participant's amazing sports achievements, and about another's international travel adventures. Two participants that have a "liken for lichen" found a new species of lichen in the genus Letharia. The dark disks in the lichen photo are the fruiting or reproductive structures.
