What a nice day in the mountains. The parking was full at 9:00 am when we started our hike. The trail was not crowded, as some people camped at Lillian Lake. The air quality at the start was fine but it worsened as we were going up. You could smell the smoke which moved in during the night as we were told by some people returning to the cars from the campground. It was hazy at Lillian Lake where we stopped for a snack. Surprisingly, the air quality improved when we arrived at the upper Galatea Lake. We had lunch there. It was not super hot, about 25C. Some of us enjoyed cool water of the lake to soak the feet. We spend about 45 min. at the upper lake and decided to take the upper trail back to the campground at Lillian Lake. We did not smell the smoke, but it was still hazy. We regrouped at the lake. When we were walking along the lower Galatea Lake to the upper Galatea Lake, we passed the girl with the big black furry dog. They were on their way back. Then, later on the trail about 20 min from the parking lot, we came across the group of young people who were carrying the black dog in the tarp. Poor dog was so exhausted, that it could not walk. We helped the dog to keep cool with our left-over water, then continued to the parking. For those who left before the dog arrived in the tarp to the parking lot, no worries it was fine. It was able to walk a short distance to the owners’ car and hopped in. I guess, it was the highlight of the day, helping to save the dog. According to Cristina's GPS, we traveled about 19.8 km with the elevation gain 899 m.
