A beautiful and social day in the mountains. Twelve Ramblers took off for south mist hills just after 9.30 and we timed the arrival at the top of the first bump perfectly with lunch. While it was a bit cool at the top, it was not windy and we could see the swirling mix of sun and clouds would eventually reach us and bathe us in glorious sunshine (but not too hot!). A leisurely lunch was enjoyed after grinding up to the ridge. The views from this modest hill are excellent in all directions.

After lunch we descended down the steep northwest facing slope to the col with some admiring the flowers along the way. Probably a bit too early for the best flowers but nonetheless there was lots to look at. We decided to do the bonus bump and after about 20 mins of further climbing got to the top for our second bagged “peak” of the day. Another social break and discussion about descending directly to the road via the ridge we were on or returning to the col and following the obvious trail to where it intersects with the Mist Ridge trail. We decided on the latter which makes for a lovely loop.

Another brief break followed at the col – it did seem like a good day for sitting down to take in the views and just enjoy being outside with like-minded folks. We passed a small number of hikers on our way down to the road and returned to the cars around 4 pm. Thanks to the largely retired crowd for joining the few working stiffs on a Sunday. It was joyous to see everyone and remember there really are other human beings outside our individual bubbles!! Looking forward to a summer of many more trips and interesting conversations. Thanks for everyone for joining us. Summary: 12 km and 820 m climbing.
