Lovely trails but lot's of bikers! Even on a weekday morning.

The mountain bikers have created a number of new trails in the West Bragg Creek area (as well as a plethora off Hwy 66). I got curious about Merlin View from seeing it on the map on several ski trips. It lies immediately north of Moose Loop.
We left the cars at 9:30 an headed out Bragging Rights to the start of the Merlin View loop. I knew that we would see some cyclists but didn't expect anywhere near as many as we encountered. By doing Merlin view in a clockwise direction (as recommended on our website) we were able to see the cyclists in time to clear the trail. I wish that I had counted but I think that we must have seen over 40!
We took a nice lunch break around 11:30 near the high point of the trail.

Doug and Sonja on the Merlin View trail

We elected to check out the Reconnect and Long Distance trails on the return making for a 15 km loop with a little over 400 m of ascent.

Back at the cars by 2:00.

We couldn't book our Kananaskis Conservation passes before we left, but they are available now at:

Many thanks to Douglas, and Sonja, for joining me on this "exploratory" trip, Carl (C/S).
