When we all met at Wasootch Parking lot around 8.30am it was about +5c but very windy. After a short discussion we decided that the scheduled Wasootch Ridge was not the place to be in a strong gusty wind which already felt cold by the cars. So we settled on Barrier Lookout whose approach is mostly sheltered in the trees.

This proved to be a good decision as we steadily walked up the snowy trail and warmed up considerably. By about halfway, we were all wearing micro-spikes though many other hikers were not. Near the top we stopped to admire the views over Barrier Lake and later to the east.

Since the wind had died down considerably we had an early lunch (11.30am ish) sheltered by the helipad or the vacant lookout building. The wind picked up as we descended the way we had come. We passed several parties going up before arriving back at the cars by 2.00pm for a 5 hour day (14km, 630m).

Thanks to the seven lovely lady members for making this such a great day for the sole male coordinator and scribe David. How could I not enjoy it? Unfortunately I have no idea why I was so lucky and if I knew, I certainly would not describe the reason here.
