Opportunity knocked with a substantial snow fall last week. We decided to do our Kananaskis Lookout Traverse and a trip was called to bring in other enthusiastic Ramblers

With Mt Roberta over looking us we assembled at a small pullout 9km south of the turnoff to Kananaskis Trail (Hwy742) and we were off.

There had been others here earlier in the week, snowshoers, and a skier or two. We encountered untracked snow where the trail turned onto Tyrwhitt and stayed that way till Elk Pass. Everyone took turns breaking trail through the 30cm of new snow.

Our enthusiastic Trail Breakers - Kananaskis Lookout Traverse - Christine , Clifton, Shirley

It was cold at Elk Pass which had taken us 2.5 hours to reach. A quick bite of lunch and we were on our way down the Hydroline to the south entrance of Lookout trail. More trail breaking now to Boulton Creek where we skinned up for more trail breaking of about another 3km and a 800ft rise from the creek.

In total, for the day, we broke trail for about 10Km. A tip of the hat (toque) to the trail breakers which was everyone.. One member chose to walk up the hill as their skins weren't working.

At the top we had another quick break and kicked off for a rough ride down the north face of Lookout trail. The trip back to the car was mostly down hill for 2 1/2 km, which is how all backcountry tours should end.
