When we left the rapidly filling trailhead parking punctually at 8.30am, it did not seem that the forecast +24c (for Calgary) would materialise here near Dead Man's Flats. It didn't. The trail to Wind Ridge is now well-signed and used. We crossed several good bridges and were soon on the steep ascent trail before taking a good break.

Then to the cliffband where we chose the easier trail bypass on climber's right. This trail winds through the trees to emerge into the open above the cliff band scramble option.

On the bypass, there are about 10 vertical metres where one will use hands to grab various solid trees. IMO, even when dry, the bypass is a scramble. It requires care and hands to descend. See Rambler definition in the Outdoor Guide page 19 " A Scramble is when an Off-Trail hike requires the use of hands to maintain balance, but does not usually require specialized climbing equipment or skills" . When wet or snowy/icy choose another trip as all routes will be slippery (dirt underfoot = mud when wet).

Wind Ridge: descent of cliff walkaround

Lunch with good views was on the first summit out of the wind. On descent we saw some sheep and many flowers.

We were back at the cars by 2.30pm for a 6 hour day, 14km, 800m vertical. The parking lot was full and cars stretched about 100m down each side of the gravel access road.
