An old favourite for half of the group, a new favourite for the others, and possibly a record for the longest duration Ramblers’ lunch break.

The weather was warm with a light wind, so it was perfect conditions for the steady climb up the ridge. This isn’t usually a notable flower hike, but there were hundreds of fresh crocuses and a few of the early alpines (draba, androsace, arabis, claytonia) were blooming. Views were outstanding and the group took a leisurely approach to the summit. We settled in for an almost 2-hour lunch. Yes, TWO HOURS. Everyone was so warm and comfortable and enjoying the conversation that we were in no hurry to return to civilization.

We left the top shortly after 1:00 and promptly started running into many other groups - probably at least 20 people in total. We soon left the chaos behind and enjoyed a quiet pleasant walk back down, except for the moment when a tick was discovered crawling on someone’s head.

Thanks to my fellow hikers for a truly enjoyable day, and especially to David for mentoring me on my 3rd trip as a probationary coordinator.
