After being warned about very high and murky flows on the Big Elbow we had a discussion and vote on an alternate hike in the Elbow area at the trailhead. We settled on Nihahi ridge. The vote was disappointing to one participant who was looking forward to an adventure but he nonetheless cheerily joined and entertained us with his good sense of humour. The hike was in good shape with avoidable snow and not muddy. A little windy when we got to the ridge. Nearing the scramble section Sim found a sheltered spot for a long early lunch break on the east side. A few of us scrambled up the last little bit but it was quite windy and cold on the exposed ridge so we quickly returned to join our companions in the sheltered spot overlooking the high flowing Elbow rivers. On return we, unfortunately got split up with one group missing the turn off the ridge to the meadow as quite a well defined unofficial trail has developed that descends the ridge. The smaller group handled the situation well by waiting and then continuing down with all of us back at the cars between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm Thanks to Yolande and Ivan for warning me about the high flow on the Big Elbow. Thanks also to participants: Rosanne,Philip,Sim,Jeannette,Brian and Brian for entertaining company, adapting to the change of plans, being Ok with democratic trip decisions and handling the group split well. I forgot my camera but Brian managed a couple of snaps with his phone - thanks!.
