Track skiing
Trip name:
Spray River west to upper Spray bridge
Coordinator:

Report:

A sunny morning made for a nice start to the day and although the snow initially looked a little old and well skied, the kick and glide were great.

We were about an hour to the Spray loop bridge where we had a snack break and then it was another hour to our turnaround lunch spot at the Upper Spray River bridge:

Mount Rundle from upper Spray River bridge

Temperature there was -12C on a mini-thermometer, so it was welcome to get back into the sun and have an uphill for the start of the return ski. The downhill return to the Spray loop bridge was wickedly fast in parts and Carolyn clocked us at 32 minutes for what had been a 1 hour ascent. For variety we headed back from there via the east side trail that was single tracked and saw a few snowshoers and fat bikers who share this part of the loop. The snow lower down was getting glazed in the track and the kick went missing on the uphills, but it was still okay if you persevered. Not too many people on the trails and we beat the holiday return rush on the TransCanada.

Thanks to a fun group for joining me from coordinator Ron; participants: Ricardo, James, Jane, Anne, Barbara, Carolyn, Dave & guest Amanda.
