Due to recent snowfall, we started our adventure from nearby Wasootch trailhead rather than the intended Porcupine Creek bridge which was inaccessible. The link trail through forest between Wasootch and Porcupine Creeks offered a pleasant reprieve from the wind, though the north section required a bit of bushwhacking. It was somewhat surprising to find Porcupine creek flowing so strongly at this time of year, requiring a few careful crossings, except at the formal bridge.

Less formal creek crossing

We followed the creek upstream to where it splits into north and south forks, marking the start of our ridge ascent. The going was quite steep at first then eased off as views started to appear.

Starting up the Porcupine Ridge

We enjoyed short breaks in sunny spots when intermittent wind gusts abated.

We had lunch at the first pinnacle where the strong SSW wind helped the group decide to forego the scrambling section beyond, which was mostly above treeline.

The return trip along the ridge afforded wonderful views.

Returning along the ridge

The pleasant 11 km, 690 m elevation trip took almost 6 hours. Special thanks to all participants who made it such an enjoyable excursion and helped break trail: Damian,Christine,Teresa,Tomiji, and newest Rambler Thomas. Brian, Coordinator & scribe.
