Report:

My Journalism professor always said, when in doubt then leave it out. When we arrived at the base of the first bump, that’s exactly what we opted to do - leave it out. That was our turn around point.

The nope slope.

Anyhow, we headed out around 10 a.m. and followed the snowshoe track, thankful it was there. As we made our way up through the trees we noticed fresh posthole punches on the snowshoe track so someone was ahead of us experiencing a sufferfest. Just below treeline we caught up to a group of four sinking up to their hips, at this point the snowshoe track ended. We passed them and continued onto our turn around point where we had lunch with a snowy view of the Kananaskis Lakes. Close to 30 minutes later the postholers joined us and we discovered they were from Australia. One fellow said they wanted to experience a Canadian winter and escape the 50C heat from down under. We offered a suggestion not to go any further as they were not equipped. Just from the conversation with the Australians, the wow factor was high, they were mesmerized with the view. One of them said, “We are so lucky to have such beautiful mountains.” I would say he put it into perspective for me, and it wasn’t just another slog up the South End of Lawson, there was definitely beauty all around. Thank you for joining me Damian and Teresa on a good day out. Yours truly, Christine. Approximately six km and 550 metres elevation gain.

Damian breaking trail, it gets deeper and steeper.

Teresa and Damian where we stopped. Why not wear a santa hat?

A majestic view with a santa hat.

Going down and the santa hats are still on. Thumbs up.

There was a lot of snow.
