Report:

It was a pleasant sunny day for this relatively straight forward out and back trip. We started out from the parking lot at about 9:30 with a fairly warm minus 5. The trail was packed with a bit of loose snow, no ice, all the way to Tower Lake. Most of it is in the lodgepole forest, so not much sun or views until the upper meadows are reached.

Helena Ridge

We were a bit spread out and some stopped in a suitable sunny spot for a quick bite, while others continued on to a broad meadow close to Tower Lake. There we regrouped and enjoyed lunch until the sun ducked behind the Tower, which sent us on our way.

Lunch in the sun

We went to the far end of the lake where we had a 10 second discussion about going up to Rockbound Lake. Basically the one participant who had done it in winter showed no enthusiasm!

The return trip was swift, with only a few opportunities for turns along the edge of the road . I now have renewed respect for those who can snow plow for over 5 km!

Trip stats: 16 km, 710 m elevation and 5 hours cars to cars
