For the past two weeks, the weather has been pretty bad with some significant snow fall in the mountains and generally cool and damp. People have been struggling to find a decent day to visit the larches which are now about prime. Friday 28 September turned out to be a reasonable day, but cloudy.

After some late signups (6.00pm-7.30pm the evening before), we arranged transport to start hiking from the Taylor Lake Trailhead at 9.15am. The trail is/was obvious and sraightforward but we stopped occasionally to reach Taylor Lake before 12 noon. Some photos were taken and snacks eaten before we headed through the campsite to the meadows above. As we decided on lunch, it was very still but with the cloud level hovering on the surrounding ridges.

Since the cloud did not lift appreciably, we decided to explore the meadows before finding some pretty tarns suggested by Bill.

Ramblers at Taylor Lake

Here we met another Rambler and her friends. The return walk passed quickly as there was much conversation on a variety of topics. We reached the cars about 4.00pm. The trail had been muddy, icy and packed snow. Although carried, non-one used traction devices. Starting temperature +1c, end +5c. 18km, 700m, 7 hours. We saw several wolverine tracks and an American Dipper (bird, not a crazy swimming tourist).

A pleasant day's hike in good company.

Participants: Bill,David,Arnold,Yoko,Brian,Clifton,Toshiko, Marianne and Ulli.
