Hoping for sunshine and good views, we drove up Hwy.93 to the parking spot north of Silverhorn campground marked "Overflow Camping" suggested by Nugara. After hiking for a few minutes along the highway, we headed up the drainage on the east side of the road towards Mt.Noyes. Walking was relatively easy, and we soon reached the scenic waterfall that comes down the rockband we had to scramble up later.

More climbing through forest on the north side of the creek brought us to a beautiful basin, and still following the creek eventually to a rocky cirque with the peak of Mt.Noyes in view. We had to work our way through some very unpleasant bouldery scree before we could head up a ramp leading up the rockband that blocked the way up.

From above the rockband to the peak the climbing is over scree and step-like rockbands towards the west ridge of the mountain.

There were a few patches of new snow on the slope. The gully leading to the summit block had only a bit of new snow in it.

Exiting the summit block chimney

On the west ridge and on the summit an unpleasant cold wind made lingering less enjoyable. But Sue and Gary wearing shorts did not seem cold.

The view all around was impressive, but unfortunately partly obscured in smoke from BC's forest firers.

Manfred

We descended down the west ridge to an interesting split rock.

Manfred

Most of the group carried on down the scree to the basin and the creek. Jack, Sim, and I wanted to explore Nugara's alternative descent route and headed a bit uphill and across scree slopes until finally descending to treeline and meeting the others. By this time my legs were quite tired and I would trundle behind the group for the rest of the way down. The trip took about 9 hours for me and a bit less for the others.

Thank you Sim, Gary, Susan, Jack, Kevin, Bruce, Lenard, and one member who has to stay unnamed, for joining me on this trip. Manfred coordinator and scibe.
