It was an inauspicious beginning. First one of the persons signed up fell backwards over a pack at the parking lot and decided it was best to go home and rest. Then, as we drove north along the Spray road, we encountered bear closure signs at Sawmill, Burstall Pass, and Chester Lake. It was no surprise when we got to the Rummel lake trailhead to find that there had been a bear sign posted that morning warning of a grizzly with a carcass that had injured a hiker the day before. Instead, we decide to go to Watridge Lake and have lunch at Karst Springs.

After lunch, it was still a little early to go back, so we decided to descend to the Bryant Creek bridge.

Along the way, there was a berry patch with both blueberries and strawberries and we left some of the group behind to (it appeared later) clean up the patch.
The weather was quite good with some sun and not a lot of smoke. We returned to the cars at 3:30 and the 13.65 km and 457 m logged made it a reasonable trip after all.
