Report:

We were all pleasantly surprised on arrival at the Black Prince parking lot, to see a blue sky and the surrounding peaks, with little evidence of smoke in the air. We headed up the trail at about 9:30 am, and began the steady climb to Warspite Lake. The weather forecast for Calgary was calling for another 30C day, but for us it didn't get beyond a comfortable 24C. A general lack of rain and the recent hot weather was very evident. The water level in Warspite Lake was much lower than normal, and vegetation at the start of the ascent had the appearance of late summer, with many of the alpine flowers past their best. Fortunately, as we got higher, there were still some spectacular displays of flowers in the meadows. As we had a very leisurely lunch we could see a group of sheep grazing on the slopes opposite, but saw no recent evidence of bear activity.

A very enjoyable day was had by all: Margo, Joanne and Steve. Johnc/s
