It was a very nice day for a hike, with moderate temperatures and a light breeze. The first part of the trail was muddy and churned up by horses, but the muddy sections were easily avoided. On the way up to the lunch spot, the conversation seemed to resolve around food, as Krystyna was gathering mushrooms for some future meals.

Edible Mushrooms

While on the lookout for mushrooms, we also saw a Spruce Grouse.

.Since we did a loop around the west side of the ridge, we had a final climb to the top for lunch.

South Volcano Ridge

The view from the top of the ridge was spectacular, with no haze to mar the 360 degree views.

Panoramic View on the Top

We were back at the cars about 2:30, having hiked 11 km and climbed about 500 m.
On the way back to Turner Valley, we passed a herd of Bighorn Sheep heading for the creek.
