A lovely day for pleasant hike on Daffern's "Protest Trail" which a few Ramblers helped implement.

A few hundred meters before the parking area we encountered a dark brown (coloured) black bear. Fortunately he/she was headed away from the commotion at Gorge Creek PRA. Two cyclists and a group of horse riders whom we met several times in the course of the day were leaving a little before us (at 9:30).

The trail up to the South Summit of Volcano Ridge is now easy to follow and has clearly been used quite a bit.

On the south summit of Volcano Ridge (true summit in bkg)

We made it up to the south summit, down to the Vocano Link trail and up to the true summit of Volcano Ridge a little after noon. During lunch we watched helicopters and planes dealing with a forest fire on the other side of Allsmoke Mtn.

A very un-Rambler-like "Selfie" - Posting to Instagram or Snapchat anyone?

We elected to return via the Volcano Link and Volcano South trails (a little longer, a little less vertical). We were back at the car shortly after 3:00.

Many thanks to participants: Sim,Alda,Jack, and John for joining me, Carl (C/S)
