The trip didn't commence in the most exemplary fashion because the trip co-ordinator arrived 10 min late (or 20 min early as he believed). The gaggle of riders was quite forgiving, after some good-natured ribbing and we were off to Weed Lake for our first stop. Water levels were unusually high and while there were good numbers of birds, some of the star attractions like American avocet and Black-necked stilt, only put in flyover appearances. Still, we got good looks at three grebe species, both Common and Red-breasted merganser and an army of Ruddy ducks among others. The riding then began, heading south from Langdon and following paved roads for about 30 km to the hamlet of Carseland, where we stopped for lunch, bad coffee and some well-earned snacks. Wind was not an issue but it was quite warm, reaching about 27 C by day's end. A great day to be out!
