As we left cold, foggy Calgary we were happy to see lightening skies and slightly warmer temperatures heading west. It was cloudy and about -14 as we reached Johnston Canyon parking. Unfortunately, it was also quite smoky due to a planned burn in the area.  We headed to Moose Mountain parking, where it wasn't smoky at all and enjoyed the hike up through snowy trees.

The temperature seemed to be warmer the higher we climbed and there was no wind at all. Just before noon, as we approached the Ink Pots, light snow began to fall.

After admiring the open pools, we had lunch, then went back down the trail to the Upper Falls in Johnston Canyon. There was some smoke in the air there, so we decided to return to the Moose Meadows trail and go back to the trail head rather than down through the full canyon and walking back on the road.
