It was a fine, spring-like day for a January hike.  There was a light chilly breeze when we set out from the cars, but layers were coming off before the top of the first hill. And once we got going there was little wind til after lunch.

We hiked up Muley Ridge first, stopping to admire the clear views of the mountains. At the north end of the ridge we descended on bare ground to the valley below where the snow was the deepest we found. We proceeded north along the horse trail til we were near the north end of Carry Ridge and the ascent was a gentle, grassy slope. Near the top of Carry Ridge we stopped for a nice lunch in the sun. By the time we were done lunch, the chinook wind was picking up.  Heading back south on Carry we found the snow a bit deeper and harder work as we slip slided down the trail.  Near the high point of the ridge we met a group of riders presumably from Anchor D.  We were back at the cars by 3:15pm where the temperature in the shade was 9C.

Conditions were pretty good ranging from bare ground or little snow on Muley to calf deep snow in the valley between Muley and Carry.  And although Carry is more open or maybe because it is more open, the snow was deeper than on Muley.

Thanks to a great group for joining me! Dave c/s/p
