Trail skiing
Trip name:

Report:
We left the trail head parking lot at Castle Mountain Junction at 9.30am. It was clear and -4c. While all were on basic old style tele-gear, skins of some kind were eventually used by all. The trail was in good condition with no rocks or ice (yet) and the snow felt moist and fast. The trail was broken all the way to Tower Lake and beyond initially by snowshoers but smooth enough to ski comfortably. It was quite warm so there were a few stops for clothing adjustment and drinks before we reached Tower Lake at 12.30pm for lunch. We crossed a few avalanche runout zones enroute, but today the risk was minimal.

The return trip was much faster, about 1.5 hours, to spit us out at the car soon after 2.30pm. We only saw a few other people all day. I don't know about Sim or Jim but I could certainly feel my thighs during the prolonged snow plough descent. A good day. 16km 670 metres, 5 1/2 hours.
