The weather looked great in the foothills as we headed west from Turner Valley, with a cloud bank over the Rockies. We started out from the Sheep visitor centre under a blue sky, but within a few minutes a black cloud came suddenly over and it started to sprinkle. Luckily this lasted only a few minutes, and the cloud blew away, revealing a blue sky again. We hiked up Pine Ridge, where fine views were enjoyed, and two hikers saw a deer.

The wind was really roaring on top, so we dropped down the side and enjoyed a nice lunch out of the wind and in the sun, although we did have to move as the shadows encroached. The trail was dry and in good condition, and more views were enjoyed from the high ground above Death Valley.
Mount Gibralter stands out on the western skyline
We enjoyed more views from a very windy Long Prairie Ridge, getting back to the cars by 2:40.
