Trip Date:

Activity:
Off-Trail hike
Trip name:
Mt Hoffman 635083

Report:
Four Ramblers set out from Indian Oils at 10:15 am on a beautiful crisp autumn day.  Okay, the wind was brisk and cool, but we encountered no mud, ice or snow.

Being a short hike, we took the side trip to the rocky outcrop / viewpoint.

At the viewpoint by the rocky outcrop

Mountains looking pretty in their new white jackets

Then on to the end of the old logging road and up the trail thru the trees.  There is now a well-defined trail all the way to the summit.  After time for photos and to enjoy the views from the summit, we found a sheltered, sunny alcove about 200 ft east of the summit for lunch.

Relaxing lunch in the sun

After lunch, we proceeded along the ridge to the southwest to the first col and then descended off trail in mostly open forest down to the Sheep Trail and then back to the cars by 2pm.

Wildlife spotted today included a herd of sheep, three whitetail deer and a grouse.

Some stats (thanks to Cornelis and his GPS):  distance 11.1 km and elevation gain 535 m.
Thanks all for another great day in the mountains.
