It turned out to be a rather wintery day for October.  We arrived at the Burstall parking lot to find fresh snow.  Looking towards the west, it appeared to be snowing and all day there were a series of squalls along the continental divide.  But this did not deter us and a determined group of Ramblers set off just before 10am.

There were only 5 other vehicles in the parking lot when we left but as the day progressed the trail became very busy.  We estimate seeing at least 75 other people and more than 20 dogs!  The temperature hovered around zero all day and as long as we were out of the wind it was pleasant.  The wind, however, had a real bite to it.  The snow depth increased as we climbed.  We reached the pass at 12:30 and were the first ones to follow the trail all the way to the viewpoint.  A quick picture and we headed back to a group of trees for a lunch break.

Three of the group found traction devices helpful for the way down.  Back at the cars at 3:20pm all agreed we had an enjoyable (winter) hike!  Thanks everyone for your company.
